Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) reaffirmed its commitment to promoting gender equality and inclusion at work in honour of Women’s Equality Day on August 26,
Through different Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs, the company plans to have 30 per cent of women working there by 2030. These efforts involve setting together a DEI team for top leaders, aligning with the 2030 agenda of the International Labour Organisation, and benchmarking the industry.
TKM hired 160 new women in March 2024 and held a ceremony to honour its first group of 55 women supervisors. This increased the number of women working for the company to over 450. By the end of the year, the company intends this number to reach 850 and more.
TKM has also doubled the number of students who can join its three-year residential course at the Toyota Technical Training Institute (TTTI). Now there are 1200 students, up to 600 of whom are women.
Infrastructure improvements, like a new dorm at TTTI and better safety features, help this effort even more. Executive Vice President G Shankara highlighted that equal pay for men and women is a key part of the company’s success and stressed TKM’s commitment to creating a welcoming and productive workplace for everyone.
