The German automotive gaint, Volkswagen Group, is in advanced discussions for a potential passenger car production partnership in India. Arno Antlitz, the group’s finance chief, highlighted these talks at the Reuters Events Automotive Europe conference in Munich.
Antlitz stressed about India’s promising but challenging market, noting the “clear” opportunity it presents for Volkswagen. He expressed optimism and cited cited India’s potential amidst regulatory uncertainties elsewhere.
These developments follow Volkswagen’s recent supply agreement with India’s Mahindra, focusing on key electric components. Despite already selling models in India and having manufacturing operations, this new venture aims to enhance Volkswagen’s presence in the growing Indian automotive market.
Volkswagen’s interest underscores the importance of strategic tie-ups in India’s dynamic automotive sector, which has seen significant collaborations among global players in recent decades.
