Vedanta Aluminium has transported over 55 million tonnes of raw materials and finished products in the financial year 2025. To put this in perspective, this volume accounts for nearly 4 per cent of Indian Railways’ total freight movement, marking a remarkable achievement for a private company.
A vast and sustainable logistics network
Vedanta Aluminium operates across Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and Andhra Pradesh, moving alumina, coal, and high-quality aluminium products efficiently. The company is the biggest container cargo exporter from Paradip Port and ships products to over 100 global destinations.
Rajiv Kumar, CEO of Vedanta Aluminium, said, “At Vedanta Aluminium, logistics is a strategic enabler of our industrial leadership, sustainability goals, and nation-building mission… With plans to scale up to 80 million tonnes, we aim to create a digitally integrated, multi-modal transport and logistics network that enhances connectivity, reduces costs, and improves efficiency across sectors.”

Railways, digitalisation, and green initiatives
Rail transport is central to Vedanta Aluminium’s logistics, with over 40 dedicated rakes moving raw materials, and plans to increase this fleet. Deepak Gulati, Chief Supply Chain Officer, said, “We are proud to be the largest customer of CONCOR, partnering to streamline our export logistics.”
The company’s rail focus reduces emissions and road congestion, while its 75 lithium-ion electric forklifts ensure safer and cleaner operations. Also, Vedanta deployed India’s first all-women locomotive team, breaking new ground in heavy industry roles. The company’s digital control tower and vehicle tracking systems underline its commitment to a resilient, future-ready supply chain.
