Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has laid the foundation stone for a new hangar at BEML Limited in Bengaluru, aimed at enhancing the manufacturing of standard and broad gauge rolling stock. This new facility is expected to boost BEML’s production capabilities, supporting the company’s role in rail coach manufacturing and spare parts production.
During his visit, Vaishnaw also inspected the Vande Sleeper Coach at BEML’s main building in Thippasandra, Bengaluru. This inspection highlighted BEML’s commitment to advancing railway technology and improving passenger comfort.
Following the foundation-laying ceremony, Vaishnaw engaged with trainees and staff at the Multi-disciplinary Divisional Training Institute (MDDTI), Bengaluru, to discuss railway training and development.
During the visit, Vaishnaw also unveiled the prototype of the Vande Bharat Sleeper Coach. The coach, designed to improve passenger comfort, will undergo extensive trials over the next 10 days before being tested on the tracks. The Vande Bharat Sleeper is anticipated to be operational within the next three months.
BEML Limited, established in May 1964, is a prominent Public Sector Undertaking in India. The company specialises in rail coaches, spare parts, and mining equipment. It is listed on both the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE), with the Government of India holding a majority stake of 54.03%. The remaining shares are owned by financial institutions, foreign investors, banks, the public, and employees.
