Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has been allotted 827 acres of land in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra, for a new manufacturing facility dedicated to electric and hybrid cars. The agreement was signed between TKM and the Maharashtra government on July 31. The new greenfield plant will be established as part of a joint initiative between the Central and Maharashtra governments, under the Maharashtra Industrial Township Limited (MITL) project.
The plant will be located in the Bidkin node of the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC). This smart industrial city aims to attract significant investments, and Toyota Kirloskar is investing Rs 21,000 crore into the project. Construction work will begin soon, with production set to commence in January 2026.
The facility is expected to manufacture 4 lakh electric and hybrid vehicles annually, generating 8,000 direct jobs and an additional 18,000 indirect jobs, according to an official statement. This move is seen as a significant boost to India’s growing electric vehicle (EV) industry.
Chief Minister Eknath Shinde welcomed the development, highlighting that the project will transform the automotive sector and strengthen India’s position in the global EV market.
With Toyota Kirloskar’s commitment to electric mobility, the new plant is set to contribute to sustainable manufacturing and create employment opportunities in the region.
