Can green transport redefine workforce mobility? Tata Motors has launched a fleet of electric buses for workforce transportation at its Pantnagar plant in Uttarakhand. These zero-emission Tata Ultra 9m electric buses, powered by a 16 MW solar energy plant, marking a stride towards achieving net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2045.

Sustainability meets innovation

The new e-bus service will provide clean and green transport for over 5,000 employees, cutting approximately 1,100 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually. Tata Motors’ wholly-owned subsidiary, TML Smart City Mobility Solutions Ltd (TSCMSL), will operate the fleet, ensuring safe and comfortable travel.

Highlighting the initiative, Vishal Badshah, Vice President – Operations, Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles, emphasised the plant’s sustainability journey. The Pantnagar facility, already certified as Zero Waste to Landfill and water-positive, has added this eco-friendly transportation milestone to its achievements.

Proven performance in electric mobility

Equipped with a full-electric drivetrain, regenerative braking, and intelligent transport systems, the Tata Ultra EV buses combine efficiency with advanced technology. With over 3,100 electric buses deployed across 10 cities, covering 24 crore kilometres and achieving over 95 per cent uptime, Tata Motors continues to lead India’s transition to sustainable mass mobility.

This initiative not only strengthens Pantnagar’s green credentials but also underscores Tata Motors’ commitment to integrating sustainability across operations, setting a benchmark for workforce transportation.
