Tata-JLR’s Rs 9,000 crore EV plant in TN

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin is scheduled to lay the foundation stone for Tata Motors-Jaguar Land Rover’s new electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing facility in Ranipet on 28th September. This plant, set up with an investment of Rs 9,000 crore, is part of a larger effort to enhance India’s electric vehicle manufacturing capabilities.

The plant, spanning nearly 500 acres, will have an initial production capacity of 200,000 units and will focus on producing EVs using Jaguar Land Rover’s Electrified Modular Architecture (EMA) platform. A significant portion of the output is expected to be exported, taking advantage of the anticipated India-UK Free Trade Agreement.

Tata Motors will also produce its electric and hybrid vehicles at the facility, positioning Tamil Nadu as a key hub in India’s growing EV sector. Over the next decade, the plant is expected to manufacture a combined total of around 300,000 units, including four different models from each brand. This project is projected to generate up to 30,000 jobs locally, reinforcing Tamil Nadu’s role in automotive manufacturing.

The investment aligns with Tata’s broader strategy to transition Jaguar to an all-electric brand by 2026, while also expanding the Land Rover portfolio with electric variants. Preparations for the facility are already underway, with the government providing full support to ensure timely execution
