Steelbird Hi-tech India, a helmet manufacturer, is embarking on a substantial expansion with an investment of over Rs 250 crore for a new manufacturing facility in Hosur, Tamil Nadu. The company, already operating four plants in Baddi (Himachal Pradesh) and Noida, aims to produce over 20,000 units from the Hosur plant within two years.
Steelbird MD Rajeev Kapur revealed that the plant’s primary focus is to address aftermarket demands and cater to various Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) in South India. The project’s initial phase involves an investment of Rs 100 crore, with the total capital expenditure spread over two years expected to reach Rs 250 crore.
Kapur anticipates that the plant will become operational within the next two years, with the company in the final stages of acquiring the necessary land.
Simultaneously, Steelbird is expanding its production capacity in existing Baddi facilities, allocating a capex of Rs 105 crore for this endeavor. Upon completion, the company’s daily production capacity is set to increase from 20,000 to 50,000 units.
Kapur highlighted the robust growth in domestic helmet demand, driven by government regulations mandating helmet usage in the country. He envisions closing the current fiscal year with a topline exceeding Rs 600 crore, compared to Rs 554 crore in the 2022-23 fiscal. Looking ahead, Steelbird aims to achieve a turnover of Rs 1,300 crore by 2026-27. Additionally, the company is diversifying into emerging segments such as baby care products and toys.
