Steel Minister H D Kumaraswamy presents prestigious National Metallurgist Awards at IIM-ATM 2024

The event gathered 1,700+ delegates to explore innovation, metallurgy advancements, and sustainable manufacturing in India’s steel industry.

The National Metallurgist Awards (NMA) presented by H.D. Kumaraswamy, the Minister of Steel and Heavy Industries, at the 78th Annual Technical Meet (ATM) of the Indian Institute of Metals (IIM) in Bengaluru. One of the key winners, Shashi Shekhar Mohanty, CEO & MD of Essar Minmet Ltd, received the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’.

The NMA recognises people for their outstanding work in metallurgy in categories such as Lifetime Achievement, National Metallurgists, R&D in Iron and Steel, and Young Metallurgist in Environmental Science and Metal Science.

Sajjan Jindal, President of IIM and Chairman of JSW Group, spoke about the need for innovation and technical excellence to boost India’s steel industry. He stressed the importance of creating a competitive manufacturing environment that helps the industry become globally strong and resilient.

The three-day event, taking place at the Dr Babu Rajendra Prasad International Convention Centre in Bengaluru, has attracted over 1,700 delegates for technical sessions, IIM Memorial Lectures, and discussions on the latest developments in metallurgy and sustainable manufacturing. JSW Steel, along with the Ministry of Steel and various IIM chapters, is leading this global event to help shape the future of the metals and materials industry.
