Skoda Auto Volkswagen celebrates production milestones at its Chakan facility

With over 30% of its production exported to 40 countries, SAVWIPL drives India’s automotive exports.

Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Pvt Ltd (SAVWIPL) is marking many impressive milestones at its Chakan manufacturing site in India. Since it was established, the plant has produced over 1.5 million vehicles, some of which are VW Vento, Polo, Skoda Fabia, Rapid, VW Taigun, Virtus, Skoda Kushaq, and Slavia which are under the MQB-A0-IN platform. The Engine Shop at Chakan has manufactured over 380,000 engines and is contributing to the ‘Make in India’ program by incorporating parts from within the country.

The other achievements of SAVWIPL are that the company has produced 300,000 units under its INDIA 2.0 car range, which boasts of having five-star safety ratings from Global NCAP. This achievement testifies to their dedication to the production of high-quality products and safety measures.

In addition, SAVWIPL has been a key contributor to automotive export in India as more than 30 per cent of its automobile production is exported to nearly 40 countries. 

Andreas Dick, the head of Production and Logistics at Skoda Auto, stressed the importance of India in their manufacturing plan and pointed out that the engine shop has been in existence for ten years and the production capacity of the plant is very high.

Speaking about the company’s engineering skills, Dr Johannes Neft, Board Member for Technical Development of Skoda Auto, said that the Indians are one of the best in terms of providing engineering solutions for developing innovative products for the global market. 

SAVWIPL’s Managing Director & CEO, Piyush Arora, echoed their support for the automotive industry of India while highlighting indigenous development and global relevance in line with ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’.
