Shyam Metalics and Energy Limited, an integrated metal producer, has ventured into the energy storage sector by introducing battery-grade aluminium foil, a vital component in Lithium-ion cells.
The Kolkata-based company, known for its aluminium foil production for various industrial uses with an annual capacity of 20,000 tons, has created customised battery aluminium foil with a thickness ranging from 12-micron to 20-micron, validated by third-party laboratories.Â
India’s surging demand for electric vehicles and green energy solutions has led to increased imports of lithium-ion batteries, prompting Shyam Metalics to contribute to the localisation of battery cell production.
Brij Bhushan Agarwal, Vice Chairman & Managing Director, expressed enthusiasm for this move and the company’s support for the government’s efforts in indigenising battery cell manufacturing.
