Shyam Metalics diversifies into battery foil manufacturing for India’s EV boom

Kolkata-based integrated metal producer takes the lead in localised battery production to fuel India’s electric vehicle revolution.

Shyam Metalics and Energy Limited, an integrated metal producer, has ventured into the energy storage sector by introducing battery-grade aluminium foil, a vital component in Lithium-ion cells.

The Kolkata-based company, known for its aluminium foil production for various industrial uses with an annual capacity of 20,000 tons, has created customised battery aluminium foil with a thickness ranging from 12-micron to 20-micron, validated by third-party laboratories.

India’s surging demand for electric vehicles and green energy solutions has led to increased imports of lithium-ion batteries, prompting Shyam Metalics to contribute to the localisation of battery cell production.

Brij Bhushan Agarwal, Vice Chairman & Managing Director, expressed enthusiasm for this move and the company’s support for the government’s efforts in indigenising battery cell manufacturing.
