Careernet’s latest report reveals a decline in demand for semiconductor design professionals in Global Capability Centers (GCCs) in Q2 FY25 due to global economic challenges and conservative hiring by multinationals. Despite this dip, India’s semiconductor GCC ecosystem which is spanning 180+ organisations and employing 1.1 lakh professionals, continues to grow, supported by India’s talented workforce and initiatives like the India Semiconductor Mission.
Bengaluru leads with 57 per cent of semiconductor GCCs, followed by Hyderabad at 17 per cent, while smaller contributions come from Pune, Chennai, and Delhi NCR. The report shows that 41 per cent of semiconductor GCCs in India operate from single locations, while 59 per cent have expanded to multiple sites. Notably, 47 per cent of these GCCs are small-scale, employing under 1,000 people, while only 9 per cent employ over 5,000.
As semiconductor demand for smartphones, EVs, and tech innovations rises, the Indian semiconductor industry looks to rebound with specialised roles in design, R&D, and manufacturing. Careernet’s Chief Business Officer, Neelabh Shukla, foresees the sector’s significant growth, driven by favourable policies and investment, and India’s expanding talent base, positioning the country to meet global semiconductor needs.
