NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), a subsidiary of NTPC Limited, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Chhattisgarh State Power Generation Company Limited (CSPGCL) to develop 200 MW renewable energy projects, including floating solar installations. The agreement was formalised on 26 November 2024 in Raipur.
The MoU was exchanged between G. K. Gupta, Chief Engineer (CP & BD) of CSPGCL, and D. Joshi, General Manager (Engineering) of NGEL. The signing ceremony was attended by S. K. Katiyar, Managing Director of CSPGCL, and P. K. Mishra, Regional Executive Director (WR-II) of NTPC, alongside other dignitaries from NGEL, NTPC, and CSPGCL.
This initiative aligns with Chhattisgarh’s renewable energy goals to enhance solar capacity beyond the current 1,265.78 MW. The deployment of floating solar technology is a key focus, aimed at conserving land while ensuring scalability for diverse energy applications, including mini-grids and large-scale projects.
NTPC’s move follows broader efforts in the state to advance clean energy infrastructure. Recently, a major battery energy storage system (BESS) project, featuring a 40 MW / 120 MWh capacity, was commissioned in Rajnandgaon. This initiative was executed by the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.
Floating solar technology offers significant benefits, including minimal land usage and adaptability for future energy needs. NTPC’s collaboration with CSPGCL underscores its commitment to supporting India’s clean energy transition and contributing to the state’s economic development. Chhattisgarh’s strategic focus on renewable energy continues to attract attention, with private and public investments fuelling large-scale projects that advance the region’s energy goals.
