Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Bhajan Lal Sharma has visited Cairn, Vedanta’s Mangala Processing Terminal in Barmer. The visit marks a significant step towards improving oil recovery from the Barmer Basin. The CM laid the foundation stone for a new Wellpad in Mangala Infill which is a part of India’s largest onshore oil production field.
Focusing on energy security and economic development
In line with the Prime Minister’s vision for India’s energy security, the CM has stressed the importance of increasing oil and gas production from the Barmer Basin. He highlighted Rajasthan’s crucial role in strengthening the nation’s domestic oil reserves. The state’s rich mineral resources make it a key hub for India’s energy needs and socio-economic development.

Cairn’s continued investment and local impact
Cairn Oil & Gas, which began its operations in Rajasthan with the discovery of Mangala in 2004, is investing in new exploration and production techniques. The company recently announced plans to invest Rs 35,000 crore over the next three years to double production. This includes drilling over 200 wells and focusing on enhanced oil recovery methods like ASP injection.
Cairn’s operations also have a strong social impact, benefiting over 25 million people annually through initiatives in health, education, and women’s empowerment. The company operates 124 Nand Ghars in Barmer, supporting over 3,000 children each year. Cairn is committed to sustainability, with plans to plant 2 million trees and reach Net Zero emissions by 2030.
