Meet the 626bhp Land Rover Defender Octa

This engine delivers 553lb ft of torque, making it the most powerful Defender ever.

Land Rover has introduced the Defender Octa, its most powerful and advanced Defender yet, set to debut at the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed. Named after the octahedral shape of diamonds, the Defender Octa is priced from Rs 2.65 crore and boasts a BMW-derived 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged mild-hybrid V8 engine. This engine delivers 626bhp and 553lb ft of torque, making it the most powerful Defender ever.

The Octa accelerates from 0-60mph in 3.8 seconds and reaches a top speed of 155mph with its 22-inch wheels. The eight-speed transmission remains, featuring high- and low-range ratios.

Key exterior features include bespoke bodywork, extended arches, and a new front bumper. Enhanced for off-road capabilities, the Octa has a one-metre wading depth and increased ride height. An aluminium alloy plate and bronze recovery points offer additional protection.

Land Rover’s 6D Dynamics suspension, similar to McLaren’s, minimises pitch and body roll while offering exceptional off-road flexibility. The Octa also features longer wishbones, active dampers, and 400mm front brake discs.

Inside, the Defender Octa offers rugged design with new Performance seats. The Edition One variant adds ‘3D Knit’ materials, carbonfibre trim, and Khaki and Ebony Ultrafabric upholstery.
