Maruti Suzuki has made considerable achievements in skill development, training over 12,000 ITI students and 350 instructors at 22 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in fiscal year 2024.
This project is part of the company’s broader drive to provide livelihood prospects for Indian youths, which includes the Japan India Institute for Manufacturing (JIM) and the adoption of other ITIs nationally.
It has been necessary to transform ITI labs to provide focused training for production lines, bearing in mind the changes in the requirements of the automobile industry in India, such as the incorporation of new technologies and adherence to sustainability.
Maruti Suzuki also showed support to Automobile Skill Enhancement Centres (ASECs) in 31 ITIs for trades like mechanic motor vehicle and auto body repair. Over 1500 students were trained in these centres and new ‘High Voltage’ (Hybrids & EV) training facilities were developed in over 100 ITIs.
As part of Maruti 3.0, the company is improving its technical skills and research and development (R&D). Maruti Suzuki is committed to providing a wide range of products and technologies to increase its skilled workforce and production capabilities. By the end of the decade, the company expects to almost double its yearly production capacity to 4 million units.
