Larsen & Toubro (L&T) is set to open its Rs 2,000 crore data centre in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu. The 12 MW facility in Sriperumbudur is nearing completion, with testing underway. L&T plans to scale the centre to 30 MW in the near term and, under a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed with the Tamil Nadu government, will expand it to 90 MW over the next five years. Moreover, the project will also generate good employment, with around 1,100 jobs, including 600 direct and 500 indirect roles.
The hyperscale data centre will provide multi-cloud cybersecurity, digital transformation, and application integration services. Chennai’s strategic location and strong international fibre optic connectivity will ensure a strong network infrastructure.
In addition to the Kanchipuram centre, L&T has plans for more facilities in Mahape, Navi Mumbai, and Whitefield, Bangalore. A 2 MW data centre in Panvel is also undergoing testing and is expected to be commissioned this quarter. The Tamil Nadu government has committed to providing uninterrupted power supply and infrastructure support, further enhancing the region’s appeal as a data centre hub.
