JK Tyre & Industries has demonstrated their dedication to sustainability by joining RE100 and utilising only renewable energy sources by 2050. JK Tyre is the 16th Indian company to join RE100 and the country’s first tire maker. The corporation has established a long term objective (by FY’30) to cut its greenhouse gas (GHG) emission intensity by 50 per cent from the base financial year 2019 in order to stay on track. By moving “Beyond Compliance” and not only getting ready for upcoming climate laws, JK Tyre hopes to promote sustainable practices in the industry and clear the path towards a carbon-neutral future.
Dr. Divya Sharma, India Executive Director, Climate Group, stated that JK Tyres decision to purchase 100 per cent renewable electricity for their operations by 2050 is a landmark commitment, demonstrating that renewable electricity can indeed be taken into consideration for large-scale, intensive manufacturing needs. Dr. Raghupati Singhania, Chairman & Managing Director, JK Tyre, acknowledged that their decision to join RE100 represents commitment to environmental responsibility.
The firm has continuously worked to construct or acquire green energy sources throughout its industrial facilities, with the main goal being to gradually raise the use of renewable energy by 2 to 5 per cent every year. At the moment, renewable energy sources account for 40 per cent of the company’s energy usage.
Additionally, since the base year 2013–14, the firm has reduced its GHG Emission Intensity by 64 per cent. All of JK Tyre’s production sites in India have achieved zero liquid discharge, zero waste to landfill, and no single-use plastic, setting a global standard for raw water management.
