India’s IT sector is witnessing a resurgence in workforce management amidst skill transformation, as highlighted by Sachin Alug, CEO of NLB Services. Despite challenges like the economic slowdown and automation leading to a decline in headcount, there’s been a notable increase in contractual hiring. Sectors such as IT, consumer durables, e-commerce, and retail are witnessing a surge in demand for contract positions, with a significant rise between 2023 and 2024.
In terms of skill sets, there’s a high demand for roles in Google Cloud, data analytics, AI/ML, application development, ERP, networking, and cybersecurity. Traditional roles like Computer Programming and Web Development are being redefined. However, profiles like DevOps, Cybersecurity, AI and ML, and Data Science are expected to maintain high demand in the coming years.
Furthermore, recruitment for tech roles in non-tech sectors like telecom, BFSI, retail, e-commerce, and healthcare is expected to increase. With AI driving disruption, continuous upskilling is imperative. Collaborative efforts between industry, academia, and government initiatives like Digital India and Skill India are crucial in driving the skilling agenda. Organisations need to adopt proactive approaches to foster skills and capabilities, particularly in AI, to navigate this transformative era effectively.
