IBA forecasts Rs 1,500 crore investment surge in biogas at Renewable Energy India Expo 2023

With the recent announcement of the Global Biofuel Alliance during the G20 meeting, international interest in India’s bio-energy opportunities is expected to surge.

The Indian Biogas Association (IBA) anticipates a significant investment announcement of approximately Rs 1,500 crore in the biogas sector during the three-day Renewable Energy India Expo 2023, commencing on Tuesday. The IBA, representing operators, manufacturers, and biogas plant planners, expressed its optimism about the event’s potential.

An IBA statement declared, “Renewable Energy India Expo 2023 (REI) will bring an opportunity worth Rs 1,500 crore. The participation is expected to increase by 25 per cent from last year.”

Key Indian conglomerates such as Reliance Industries and Adani Solar are slated to participate in the REI. Support from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and the National Institute of Bio-Energy enhances the biogas pavilion’s significance.

Scheduled from October 4 to 6, 2023, at the India Expo Centre in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, the REI is one of the premier trade expos focusing on renewable energy, encompassing bio-energy, solar, wind, and energy-efficient technologies like electric vehicles and battery storage. Its objective is to accelerate India’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions.

A R Shukla, IBA President, remarked, “Last year REI saw a huge success with the number of initiatives announced. We are expecting to generate lots of queries from the investors from this year’s exhibition.” With the recent announcement of the Global Biofuel Alliance during the G20 meeting, international interest in India’s bio-energy opportunities is expected to surge.

Shukla further stated, “We are expecting almost 25,000 plus footfalls with the renewed interest and the government’s push towards the Bio-Energy sector.”

Gaurav Kedia, Chairman of IBA, emphasized the potential of the biogas sector, highlighting its current contribution to the energy mix, which is less than one percent but is projected to increase significantly by 2030.

The REI Expo has evolved into a premier platform for national and international stakeholders in the renewable energy domain to showcase technologies, products, and foster industry interaction. The IBA, India’s first nationwide and professional biogas association, unites operators, manufacturers, planners of biogas plants, and representatives from public policy, science, and research in India.
