The Indian government is preparing for the 2025 Budget, aiming to boost renewable energy and green infrastructure. One of the key proposals is to offer incentives to improve battery component manufacturing for electric vehicles (EVs), which will help speed up India’s transition to clean energy.
Key proposals for green energy growth
The government is expected to expand the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for solar power and increase funding for renewable energy projects like the PM Suryaghar Muft Bijlee Yojana. These initiatives will support solar, wind, green hydrogen, and battery storage systems, as well as address grid and transmission challenges.
The government plans to extend the PM Suryaghar scheme to cover more households. Additionally, it may offer Viability Gap Funding (VGF) to promote offshore wind energy projects. Industry players are also advocating for incentives for battery energy storage systems (BESS), the use of batteries instead of diesel generators, and easier rooftop solar installations.
These steps reflect the government’s commitment to meeting rising power demands while supporting sustainable growth. By integrating AI, and smart meters, and strengthening climate-resilient infrastructure, India’s energy future will be cleaner and greener.
