Fleet managers may now get accurate, daily updated data on the tire wear rate of their commercial vehicles due to the introduction of automated tire tread depth measurements. Precise tire service scheduling for individual commercial vehicles and entire fleets is made possible by the ContiConnect sensor generation in conjunction with AI-based algorithms, which raises safety and efficiency while cutting costs and pollution. The ContiConnect solution portfolio already includes data on tire pressure, temperature, and mileage.
Continental will present these solutions at the IAA Transportation 2024 in Hanover from September 17 to 22. The market launch of the new ContiConnect solutions is planned for summer 2025. The company will also showcase its two new ContiConnect Lite and Pro versions for customised fleet management in Hanover.
The ContiConnect sensor measures changes in the radial acceleration of the tire, with the more flexible the rubber of the tread, the shallower the tread depth. This data is used to draw conclusions about the changed rolling behaviour of the tire and tire wear. The AI uses tire specifications and tire mileage, taking vehicle-specific factors into account, to predict the tread depth of the tire and the expected tire mileage. This allows fleet managers to efficiently plan tire maintenance or changes and coordinate them with the operating schedule and other upcoming service work such as vehicle inspections.
ContiConnect is a key element of Continental’s “Lowest Overall Driving Costs” (LODC) consulting concept that offers the transportation industry an effective tool to deal with further increases in cost pressure and the optimisation of fleet CO2 emissions. Tires on the fleet are a major determinant of fuel, maintenance as well as repair costs, which consume half of the operating expenses of any fleet.
The ContiConnect digital tire management has been divided into two clearly defined categories in Continental. The first one is ContiConnect Lite, which is developed for the entry-level version and is based on the mobile application where the customers can receive the first impression of the possible functions of the tire management system. ContiConnect Pro is the tire sensing and analytic solution for managing the entire digital tire conditions and status for the fleet and provides alerts and the detailed information on the digital tire status in the web interface and a smartphone application.
