Mundra, an Integral part of Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ) has created history by being the first Indian port to host MSC Anna, the largest container ship to dock at an Indian port. It has a total length of 399.98m in total length and measures 64m in the breadth of the vessel.
The vessel arrived recently, measuring 399.98 metres overall and 19,200 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU) in capacity. Mundra Port is the only port in India that is capable of accommodating the MSC Anna which has a 16.3m draft and will facilitate swapping about 12,500 TEUs while the ship is being used.
Mundra Port held the record of berthing the largest ever Containment vessel named MV MSC Hamburg in July 2023 with the total length of the vessel being 399 meters and the carrying capacity of 16,652 TEUs.
The port went on to add milestones in 2023. In fact, in October itself it dealt with as many as 16 MMT cargo and has become the first terminal in India to hit 3-million-TEUs-in-a-year benchmark. In November 2023 it recorded a monthly intake of over three hundred thousand TEUs, a record for the particular month.
Located in the Kutch region of Gujarat, at the mouth of the Gulf of Kutch, Mundra Port is India’s largest commercial port, with a total area of over 35,000 acres and possessing deep draft and all-weather capabilities. Its effective cargo discharge and short vessel stay-on become potent for the world shipping industry.
The recent launching of MSC Anna at Mundra Port further underlines the vital part played by the latter in the development of Indian maritime trading and the importance of the country in the international transport and communication system.
