IIT Bombay has partnered with ABB India to establish an advanced electrical machines and drives lab at the Department of Energy Science and Engineering. This state-of-the-art lab will provide students with hands-on experience using energy-efficient industrial equipment such as variable frequency drives (VFDs) and programmable logic controllers (PLCs).
The lab is designed to emulate real-world industrial applications, including those in wind turbines and electric vehicles, preparing students for careers in the evolving energy and industrial sectors.
Sanjeev Arora, President of ABB India’s Motion Business, emphasised the collaboration’s focus on nurturing future engineers with sustainability at the forefront of their education. IIT Bombay’s Director, Prof Shireesh Kedare, highlighted the lab’s role in equipping students with the skills to innovate and lead in sustainable energy systems.
This partnership aligns with ABB India’s broader initiatives, including collaborations with IIT Roorkee and community projects focused on skill development and sustainability. Thus, the lab aims to train engineers who value energy and resource efficiency by developing technical skills and environmental awareness.
